Thanksgiving used to be my favorite holiday. It had all the excitement of Christmas, the family gathering and tons of food, without being so commercialized. Plus my dad’s birthday (November 25) would always be around the holiday.

My dad passed away in 2007, and the joy of Thankgiving was gone for me. It was more of a reminder he was no longer with us and there weren’t any canddles to blow.

On October 30, 2011 baby Emma was born and Thankgiving took a new meaning for me. I was thankful for motherhood! Now 2015, I’m still thankful for motherhood as I celebrate with my three beautiful girls. I teach them Thanksgiving is not only a time to be grateful for everything, good and bad, but also a time to remember their beloved Papi Mauro. Who, if still alive, would adore them more than anything.
